New Wind Farm for the Cambrian Mountains

A new wind farm is being planned for an area in the Cambrian Mountains just to the north east of Ffarmers.

Bryn Cadwgan Energy Park proposed by renewable energy company Galileo, is located on the Carmarthenshire / Ceredigion border, approximately 10km to the east of Lampeter, 10km to the south of Tregaron and 16km to the north of Llandovery.

The wind farm will have 25 turbines with an installed capacity of up to 175 Megawatts, enough to power up to 115,000 homes.

Galileo are also considering solar photovoltaic panels and battery energy storage at the Energy Park.

Due to the scale of the proposed Bryn Cadwgan Energy Park, it is classed as a Development of National Significance (DNS) and a planning application will be submitted to the Planning and Environment Decisions Wales (PEDW) for determination by Welsh Ministers.

Although Carmarthenshire and Ceredigion County Councils will not determine the planning application, they are key statutory consultees and will prepare Local Impact Reports as the host planning authorities.

The project has already secured a grid connection to allow the Energy Park to export electricity to the National Grid, although a specific route of the grid connection is still to be decided.

Galileo are keen to work with the local community and as part of that they are running two informal consultation drop-in events in Llanddewi Brefi (8 November) and Pumsaint (9 November).

Members of the public are also invited to give feedback on the proposal directly by contacting Galileo by phone on 01550 910285, by email to [email protected] or by post to Freepost GRASSHOPPER CONSULT. They also have a Feedback Form on their website.

The deadline for feedback is Thursday 30 November 2023.

The Project Manager for Bryn Cadwgan Energy Park is Leslie Walker.
