This Incense making workshop, for adults and children, is part of a series of creative short workshops with Peggy Beer.
This workshop enables you to make the things you love in a natural way, with the knowledge of exactly what ingredients they contain.
For thousands of years, people have used fragrant flowers, plants, herbs and resins as incense. Using smoke to send prayers out to the gods is one of the oldest forms of ceremony.
The Workshop
Peggy will start with a short introduction covering the backgrounds of the use of incense and then get straight into the practical elements.
You will be able to try out two different incense dough base recipes as well as choosing your own individual fragrance mix of dried flowers, plants, herbs and resins such as lavender, rose, sage, cinnamon, frankincense, glove, pine needles and more.
For the Aroma blend use one ingredient only, make your individual unique mix, or choose from a variety of recipes.
Once you have created your incense base simply incorporate your aroma blend into the dough and finally shape into cones.
Additionally, you will also be able to create your own individual design to make an incense holder from clay, choose a simple plate shape or a more advanced design such as ‘smoking houses’ or ‘smoking people’.
Please bring containers to take your cones and your clay creation home in. The cones will need drying for a few days before they can be used.
