Carmarthenshire County Council is the top tier local authority covering the county of Carmarthen including the towns of Carmarthen, Llanelli, Kidwelly, Llandovery, Llanybydder and Llandeilo.
The council is one of 22 unitary authorities that came into existence on 1 April 1996 under the provisions of the Local Government (Wales) Act 1994.
The Council’s services include education, planning, car parks, social care, roads, street lighting and waste management.
The activities of Carmarthenshire County Council are overseen by 75 elected County Councillors.
Plaid Cymru is the majority party on the Council with 38 of the 75 Councillors.
The Leader of the CouncilĀ is Cllr Darren Price.
The Chief Executive of Carmarthenshire County Council is Wendy Walters who has held the post since June 2019.
