Willow Weaving (Square to Round Basket) at Denmark Farm

A fun one day basket weaving workshop in traditional ‘stake and strand’ basket making, using prepared willow and some willow grown at Denmark Farm on the wetland system to add colour and texture.

Participants will be working with different traditional basketry techniques, starting with a square base made in a clamp. The form of the basket will then be guided into a more rounded shape to make a beautiful vessel suitable for a multitude of practical purposes.

You can choose from a variety of naturally coloured willow to make your own unique and beautiful basket.

This course is suitable for practical beginners and those who have previously done some willow basket weaving.

All tools and materials provided, but bring your own sharp secateurs and a knife if you have them.

Please wear warm old clothing.

The tutor for this willow basket weaving course is Jane Welsh.

Jane is a guest tutor from Devon, usually visiting West Wales to teach at Denmark Farm twice a year. Jane is a very skilled basket maker and attentive teacher. Her knowledge and love of willow is inspiring. She will also have a range of her own baskets for sale at very reasonable prices.

Places are limited and must be booked in advance.
