Paperback Book Binding at Denmark Farm

Throughout this day-long course participants will be learning traditional book binding techniques, and using a range of hand tools to make a beautiful and personalised A5 notebook that you can take home with you.

The course will also include collage, and you will use your own printed images to create a zine, where we will be considering image relationships.

Please bring your own printed images, whether that is photographs of family, artworks or anything you want really. It is about creating visual narratives in the form of a small book. You can also use collaging material – we’ll have some magazines.

The tutor for the course is Charles Turner of Gloaming Notebooks.

Places are limited and must be booked in advance.

Gloaming Notebooks is a small business operated by Charles Turner, who fell in love with book binding when studying at Manchester School of Art.

The word Gloaming references the time of day after the sun has set and before the darkness of night. This tranquil and reflective space cast in the blue light of pre-night time mirrors the ethos of his books.

Inspired by walking and introspection, they encourage individuals to develop a dialog with oneself. Bringing pen to paper emphasises your handwriting, something as unique as your fingerprint.

This event will be followed by a Hardback Notebook Binding course on Sunday 21 January 2024.
